 straddle the boundary with other preserved counties, and Boundary Commission for Wales proposals for new boundaries have been accepted, to become effective for the 2010 United Kingdom general election and the Welsh Assembly election, 2007. The two elections are unlikely to occur at the same time and, therefore, there will be a period when boundaries for Westminster purposes differ from those for Assembly purposes. The new boundaries define seven constituencies covering Clwyd, all entirely within the boundary of the preserved county.

The eight existing constituencies were created before changes to the boundaries of preserved counties under the Preserved Counties (Amendment to Boundaries) (Wales) Order 2003, which came into effect in 2003, and before changes to local government boundaries under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994

The Clwyd South constituency is also partly a Powys constituency, and the Conwy and Meirionnydd Nant Conwy constituencies are also partly Gwynedd constituencies.

The Clwyd South constituency is also partly a Powys constituency, and the Conwy and Meirionnydd Nant Conwy constituencies are also partly Gwynedd constituencies.

The eight constituencies include seven of the nine constituencies of the North Wales electoral region and one of the eight constituencies of the Mid and West Wales electoral region. The other two North Wales constituencies are Gwynedd constituencies. Of the other seven Mid and West Wales constituencies, two are Powys constituencies, and five are Dyfed constituencies.
