When asked by the BBC about his future in football in an October 2010 interview, Donovan said the following: "It's hard for me to say as I've had a really long year. But we'll see after a few week's rest and we'll see how it goes." He also went on to say the following of a possible return to Everton: "It would be hard to say no. I really hope that, if it's not this year, I get to go back there and play again. But if you asked me now I would lean towards a little more uncertainty." Everton were keen to sign Donovan in the summer
