History

The School was founded in 1911 under the name Leehurst. The main building used to be the original birth house for nuns. In 1953 it was taken over by the Sisters of La Retraite and took their name. In 1988, the school became a charitable trust, and in 1996 it merged with The Swan School, an independent preparatory school for boys founded in 1933 by Miss Swanton, sister of the celebrated cricketer E. W. Swanton

The main building, originally a 19th century farm, occupies a 5 acres (20,234.3 m²) stretch of land. It has been added to and expanded at various times up until the present day, the newest addition being a separate building for the pre-preparatory school. The school also has access to a pavilion and playing fields in Salisbury Cathedral Close.

, Headmaster, who took over the position on the retirement of Mrs Rosemary Simmons in 2006.

In 2007 the school changed its name from La Retraite Swan to Leehurst Swan School to signify the end of the association with the Sisters of La Retraite.
