.The famous Someshwara and Sangameshwara and Malleshwara temples are located in this samasthan. It is difficult to portray the beauty of river Krishna which floats between Somasila and Sangameshwaram. There are traces of architectural treasures from the 2nd century B.C. in this samasthan. Still you can see hundreds of ancient temples, which were built before 1500 years ago.
Kollapur town is formed in a disciplined manner. Roads are broad and tree plantations all through both sides of the road made people to spell it as Andhra Mysore.

A massive lift irrigation project work worth of 1500 crores is going on near Kollapur. Near to Kollapur, many tourism spots are available. It is worth to watch famous Somasila temple, which is located just 9 km from Kollapur. Recently, a long awaited bitumen road is also laid from Kollapur to Somasila.

Kollapur Samasthan played a considerable role in Nizam's era. Kollapur has produced great personalities such as Kotla Venkata Subbaiah, who worked as mantri ( secretary ) to raja of kollapur and Miyyapuram Rama Krishna Rao, a famous telugu brahmin, who also worked as mantri to raja of kollapur after Kotla Venkata Subbaiah.

The planning of the town is so civic. The roads are so broad and one can wonder how neatly the town was planned in those olden days. Kollapur has a Helipad and Aerodome from back in the early 1900s. There were no encroachments in this town. This is also known as Andhra Mysore, because of its beautiful planned roads.

The education is at its best. There are tremendous educationists in Kollapur. It has produced meritorious students in the past and in present too. Dr.Venu Gopal Rao Miyyapuram, who migrated to Canada is awarded with doctorate from Alberta University. Industrialist Ramesh Miyyapuram of SHIVANTH GROUP hails from this historic place.

There were people of all castes and the loyal and meritorious were in key posts. Kotla families were the immigrants from East Godavari-AP/ Maharashtra/Bengal/Orissa region who served Kollapur samsthan cabinet and ministry for over three generations. Education is in the Soil. Agriculture is very poor due to lack of adequate ground water resources and acute shortage of rain fall almost in every year in this region. Surprisingly, you can see fertile lands at few places because of water flown thru canals connected to lift irrigation projects.

Attractions

Somasila - There are 15 temples all housing the Sivalingas. The temples range in date between the 7th and 17th Centuries A.D. Sivarathri & Karthika Pourpami are celebrated with much fervour. The temple was shifted from old Somasila village, to higher contours to protect it from the waters of Srisailam Reservoir. With beautiful surroundings it is an ultimate and ideal picnic spot near Kollapur.

The Madhava Swamy temple at Kollapur was originally built by the Rajas of Jetprole during the 16th century A.D. on the left bank of the river Krishna, at Manchalakatta. The architecture of the temple is amazingly beautiful. All around the temple walls are beautifully carved sculptures depicting the 24 aspects of Vishnu and the Dasa-Avatars of Vishnu. Various pillars supporting the Mandapa, the Garudalaya add beauty to the temple complex. Due to the submergence under the Srisailam project reservoir, this temple was shifted and rebuilt at Kollapur.

Singavatnam which is 9 km distance from Kollapur is having the famous Sri Laxmi Narsimha Swamy temple and reservoir which is serving nine villages by irrigating the lands.

Jetprole about 15 km distance from kollapur is another place of attraction having ancient Sri Venugopalaswamy temple and picturesque riverside.

Miyyapuram about 26 km distance from kollapur where the powerful goddess Satyammathalli temple is located on the hill top. This is the very ancient temple and believed to be built by 'Nandavarikas' few centuries ago. Celebrations at temple during 'Dashera' festival is worth watching. From the temple, one can see the amazing beauty of river krishna with lush green surroundings.

'Ankalamma Temple' is one more adventurous attraction located near kollapur. For reaching Ankalamma temple, one has to drive from Kollapur to Amaragiri by road and the distance is 6 km. From Amaragiri, you can engage a motor boat for proceeding towards temple. The journey covers 26 km one way from Amaragiri to Ankalamma Temple in river Krishna. You can watch plenty of islands thruought this journey. One cannot hesitate to call these as Telangana Papikondalu. After reaching Ankalamma Konda, you have to trek for 2 km to reach the temple. This journey will definitely be a memorable and adventurous and a visit to this place will definitely force you to visit again and again.

Politics

Jupally Krishna Rao, an MLA of TRS and former Minister for Endowments, Former Minister for Food,Civil supplies,Legal Metrology, Consumer affairs. Govt of A.P, hails from this town.

J. Krishna Rao Garu aged 50 years, resident of Peddadagada Village, Weepanagandla Mandal of Kollapur Assembly Segment Mahabubnagar, a visionary and a committed political person with a clean canvass before him about the perspectives and the future activities.
J. Krishna Rao Garu, graduate of Arts, started his career in a very humble way and went on to represent Kollapur Assembly constituency since 1999. Sri J. Krishna Rao strived hard to expose all the evils designs in the society and inculcated clean public life.

J. Krishna Rao Garu participated agitations in a true Gandhian style to protest against any policies that affect the farmers, weaker section and economically backward society. He did padayatra in all the villages and tribal hamlets and is readily accessible to the people and always in the forefront to lead movements to develop the society and motivate the people to do good deeds.

Mr Jupally Krishna Rao is the first minister of Telangana who gave resignation for the cause of Telangana. When there was no response from his party high command, he resigned to the party and joined TRS. He got huge applause not only from his constituency but also from all corners of Telangana. Sacrifice is in kollapur soil itself. The people of Kollapur are always ready for many more sacrifices for the welfare of their land.
