Admissions
It is the only secondary school in Knaresborough and serves the town and the surrounding villages. The current Headmaster is Carl Sugden. There is a locker area for each house. It is situated in the centre of the town on the main A59A59 road

Grammar school
The school was founded in 1616 as King James Grammar School with a charter from King James I . The school magazine is named after Dr Chaloner who founded the school magazineThe Chaloner. Houses
King James's School has four school houses which have a colour each, Airedale - Blue, Nidderdale - Red, Swaledale - Yellow and Wharfdale - Green.The uniform
Girls Uniform:- Green jumper with KJS logo on it.
- White shirt.
- Green tights - for years 7 to 11, as both 6th form years wear black or grey.
- Stuart tartan kilt. (years 7-9 wear royal tartan, years 9-11 wear hunting tartan, 6th form wear dress tartan)
- Black suitable shoes.
- Not too much make-up and jewellery and hair styles/colour worn to the rules.
- The Girls' school raincoat is needed during the winter term.
- P.E. kit - different kit for indoor and outdoor, many different sports are available at KJS.
- Need aprons for Art, DT and Food Technology.

- Green Blazer with KJS crest/logo on it.
- White shirt.
- Tartan tie. (years 7-9 wear royal tartan, years 9-11 wear hunting tartan, 6th form wear a collage tie)

Academic performance
It gets well-above average GCSE results and very good A-level results - the 4th best for comprehensives in North Yorkshire.Alumni
