Kandukur has a historic background. Skandapuri which was an area ruled during srikrishna devaraya period was renamed as Kandukur. It is now one of the fastest developing towns in the state. Kandukur has a very big Arts & Science college named Tikkavarapu RamiReddy (TRR) Govt College. In the era of 100 acre (0.404686 km²). two engineering colleges were established in and near by the town.

Sree Vidya Residential School is the primary private institute that gives good education in Kandukur.

Kandukur has one Government Degree college named Tikkavarapu Rami Reddy Govt College. This is one of the Govt colleges in Prakasam district in early times (up to early ninetimes).
