. It is part of the privately owned Van Eerd Group. Van Eerd was originally a grocery wholesale company, established in 1921. In 1983, Van Eerd started the "Jumbo Supermarkten" supermarket chain. Within a short time there were dozens of Jumbos in the provinces of North Brabant

In December 2005, Jumbo hypermarket was chosen as the "best shop chain of the year" in the supermarkets category .

At present Jumbo is one of the fastest growing supermarkets in the Netherlands with a market share which regularly increases by 50% year-on-year.

The chain employs 10,000 people and there are, , a total of 53 branches and 24 franchisers.

The head office and distribution centre are situated in Veghel
