While the Squeaky Wheel analysis was used in different forms before Billings, his poem, "The Kicker" brought the idiom into common usage of American language. The term "kicker" at the time in the 1800s was another term for a complainer. The poem is:

I hate to be a kicker,
I always long for peace,
But the wheel that does the squeaking,
Is the one that gets the grease
Grease (lubricant)

The term grease is used to describe a number of Quasi-solid lubricants possessing a higher initial viscosity than oil. Although the word grease is also used to describe Rendering fat of animals, in the context of lubricants, it typically applies to a material consisting of a calcium, sodium or lithium soap base emulsion with mineral oi...

Internet Lingo

Josh Billings coined the term, "Just Joshing" or "Just Joshin", this soon hit the telegraph keyboards like wild fire and people started typing "J.J." to represent "Just Joshing". Billings also once stated in 1846 that "J.J. (Just Joshing) is the new J.K." (Just Kidding). These 19th-century abbreviations, originally used in telegraphy and typewritten memos, fell out of use in the early 20th century; however, J.K. has recently been revived as an Internet abbreviation. J.J. is occasionally seen in Internet chat; however, it is usually assumed to mean "Just Joking."
