At the beginning of the 2005–06 season, Anyinsah opted not to sign a new contract for Bristol City – who he'd been with since the age of 9 – and instead signed for Preston North End

In January 2009, Anyinsah re-joined fellow League One side Carlisle United for an undisclosed fee.

Joe made his 2nd debut for Carlisle United as a 72nd minute substitute, scoring the winning goal in a 3–2 win over MK Dons on 17 January.

Anyinsah made his Charlton debut on 11 September 2010, stepping off the substitutes bench to score the winning goal in a 1–0 victory over Notts County.

On July the 6th 2011, Anyinsah signed for Bristol Rovers
