Annual tradition

Every year, during the sugar-cane harvest season, or "picking", a night market is held. Some people call it metikan or "bancakan" in some areas of western Bradford.

Temanten sugar cane is the symbol of the results of the hail. A doll-bonekaan made from sugarcane was dressed like a bride and paraded around town. After the parade, a walimahan is held, attended by employees of the sugar factory.
