Biometric passport

Since February 6, 2006 biometric passport are electronic passport (e-passport) issued according to the international standards established by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization). The application of biometric passports is an attempt to combat the forms of forgery most commonly encountered by Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, especially regarding passports of Indonesian migrant workers.

Effective from 26 January 2011, Indonesian Immigration Authority (Kementrian Hukum dan HAM RI) is scheduled to launch the e-passport. The government sets the amount of e-passport launched to be 10.000 units along the year of 2011. The launch of newly implemented e-passport is limited in three immigration offices, those are Immigration Office Class I Jakarta Barat (West Jakarta), Immigration Office Cllas I Special Soekarno-Hatta, and Immigration Office Class I Jakarta Pusat (Central Jakarta).

Regular passport

Issued by Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. It can be obtained at any immigration office in Indonesia and at Indonesian embassies and consulates. The passport contains either 24 or 48 pages and is valid for 5 years.

 under Article 29(1)(d) and Article 33 of the Immigration Act of 1992. However, new government regulations in 2009 deleted the relevant portions of the legislation. As of Hajj 2009, all hajj pilgrims from Indonesia use regular passports. The use of ordinary passports is a requirement of the Saudi Arabian government.

Passport Note

The passports contain a note from the issuing state that is addressed to the authorities of all other states, identifying the bearer as a citizen of that state and requesting that he or she be allowed to pass and be treated according to international norms. The note inside Indonesian passports states:
In Indonesian:
"Pemerintah Republik Indonesia memohon kepada semua pihak yang berkepentingan untuk mengizinkan kepada pemegang paspor ini berlalu secara leluasa dan memberikan bantuan dan perlindungan kepadanya.

Paspor ini berlaku untuk seluruh dunia"
In English:
"The Government of the Republic of Indonesia requests to all whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and afford him/her such assistance and protection.

This passport is valid for all parts of the world"

Passport fees

Indonesian Government has agreed to abolish fee of fingerprint taking which was set as Rp. 15.000,- (Fifteen thousand rupiah) and therefore effective from 1 January 2011, passport fees have become as following:
  1. Ordinary passport (48 pages) : IDR 255.000 (USD 30)
  2. Ordinary passport (24 pages, applicable for Indonesian low-skilled worker abroad only) : IDR 105.000 (USD 12)
  3. Biometric passport (48 pages) : IDR 655.000 (USD 77)
  4. Biometric passport (24 pages, applicable for Indonesian low-skilled worker abroad only) : IDR 405.000 (USD 48)


The base of the mentioned fees was set under Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 38 Tahun 2009 tentang Jenis dan Tarif Penerimaan Negara Bukan Pajak yang berlaku pada Departemen Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia RI.
