It is an open and distance learning
institution which offers internationally accredited qualifications. It forms partnerships in Africa and elsewhere to produce marketing executives. IMM’s roots go back over 60 years, which makes it a well established graduate school.
The Graduate School's national office is in Johannesburg, and there are regional offices in Cape Town
(Western Cape), Durban
(KwaZulu-Natal), and Harare
(Zimbabwe
). Many of the Student Support Centers are Institutions of Higher Education
in their own right but make use of the IMM GSM to add additional accredited qualifications to their portfolio. Most notable amongst these Student Support Centers are Damelin
, Durban University of Technology
and Varsity College who offer the relevant tuition and IMM qualifications at some of their campuses.
Potential students need a school-leaving qualification that would entitle them to enter a university or college in their own country.
The IMM Graduate School of Marketing (IMM GSM) is registered with the Department of Higher Education (DoE) as a private higher institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997 Registration Certificate No. 2000/HE07/013 .
The South African Qualifications Authority
(SAQA) registers all courses. The highest qualification currently (2010) offered by the IMM GSM is the BBAM (Bachelor of Business Administration

) and is submitted under NQF level 7 (Professional Qualification / Honours Degree / Post Graduate Certificate).
IMM Diploma and Degree holders automatically get entry to the Chartered Institute of Marketing
