, and the couple had two sons and one daughter.
He was educated at Eton College
and served as Conservative
Member of Parliament
for Selkirkshire
from 1861–1868 and for South Hampshire from 1868–1884. He was official Verderer
of the New Forest
from 1890–1892, and was Honorary Colonel of the 4th Hampshire Rifle Volunteers from 1885.
In 1885 he was raised to the peerage as 1st Baron Montagu of Beaulieu
.
