The Town of Harrisburg (originally "Harrisburgh") was formed in 1803 from the Towns of Lowville

). After its formation, Harrisburg gave up land to form the Town of Denmark
(1807) and the Town of Pinckney
(1808).

living together, 5.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.6% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.04 and the average family size was 3.73.
In the town the population was spread out with 33.6% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older.
