Once used as an in-patient (residential) hospital for secure detainment, that purpose is now defunct; and therefore the unit only plays host to day-care facilities as well as therapies, mental health assessments and consultations.

Due to the original purpose; the Haleacre section of the building (physically part of the rest of Amersham Hospital) is guarded by high metal fencing and visibly safe fixtures and fittings inside.

All in-patients in Buckinghamshire (involuntary and voluntary) are now taken to the nearby Tindal Centre
