Greensburg Station is an Amtrak
railway station located approximately 30 miles (48.3 km) east of Pittsburgh
at Harrison Avenue and Seton Hill Drive in Greensburg, Pennsylvania
. The station is located just north of the city center, and is currently served only by Amtrak's Pennsylvanian
, which operates once per day in each direction. Until 2005, Greensburg was served by a second daily train, the Three Rivers
(a replacement service for the Broadway Limited
), an extended version of the Pennsylvanian that terminated in Chicago. Upon its cancellation, the sole Pennsylvanian marked the first time in Greensburg's railway history that the town was served by just a single, daily passenger train.
The station was opened in 1912 by the Pennsylvania Railroad
as part of a project to elevate the right-of-way as it passed through Greensburg. William Cookman served as architect. The station has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places
since 1977. From March to November, 1981, the station was also the eastern terminus of PennDOT's Parkway Limited
train, which took commuters to Pittsburgh.
The historic station itself exists, housing a restaurant. There is no ticket office available at the small shelter which serves as the current station.
The Westmoreland County Transit Authority
has its transit center located at 41 Bell Way in Greensburg, which is approximately 0.3 mile (0.482802 km) south of the train station. All WCTA bus routes that pass through Greensburg Station at transit center. Greyhound
also has a bus stop in the city, located at the WCTA transit center.
