Etymology and importance

Govindaraopet serves as a mandal headquarters for surrounding villages.
The name Govindaraopet is derived from the god Govindarajulu. The majority of the people in the village rely on agriculture and domestic animals for their livelihood. Agricultural products includes paddy, Chili, cotton, mangoes, etc.
Govindaraopet can be reached in approximately 2 hours via road from Warangal. Frequent road transportation facilities available from public (APSRTC) and private vehicles at affordable rates.
Pasra is a major panchayat village, 3 km from Govindaraopet and serves as economic hot spot for local businesses. A police station, government hospital and schooling up to degree level were also set up.

Laknavaram Lake

Laknavaram Lake is around 78Km from Warangal and 6km from Govindaraopet. Tourists coming from Warangal direction has to take the NH 202 road towards Mulugu. After crossing mulugu, drive 8Km to the right direction into the thick forest to reach this place.
The green hills of Govindaraopet agency mandal lie side by side to form a massive bowl like structure which holds the spacious, beautiful and pristine lake popular known as ‘Laknavaram Cheruvu’.
The lake was the discovery of ancient Kakatiya rulers. They spotted this excellent place amidst trees and green hills lined up around to hold the rainwater. The Kakatiya rulers only built a small sluice gate turning the place into a spacious lake which now feeds thousands of acres of agricultural land every year.

, also known as the Ramalingeswara temple, is located 77 km from Warangal, the ancient capital of the Kakatiya dynasty, 157 km from Hyderabad in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India. It lies in a valley at Palampet village of Venkatapur Mandal, in erstwhile Mulug Taluq of Warangal district, a tiny village long past its days of glory in the 13th and 14th centuries. An inscription in the temple dates it to the year 1213 and said to have been built by a General Recherla Rudra, during the period of the Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva.

Medaram Sammakka Sarakka

Medaram is a village in Warangal district, Andhra Pradesh, India. A popular religious congregation or Jatara called "Samakka sarakka jatara" or "medaram jatara" takes place for three days biennially in this village. This is deemed to be second largest congregation in India, only after the Kumbha Mela. Nearly one crore or ten million people are expected to converge on this village for the Jatara in the year 2010.
