Geraldo Washington Regufe Alves (born November 8, 1980 in Póvoa de Varzim) is a Portuguese footballer that currently plays for AEK Athens FC in the Greek first division.
His younger brother, Bruno, is a former AEK player, and both are centre backs.
s started his professional career at hometown's Varzim SC, playing 15 matches in the Portuguese first division in 1998-99, and subsequently signing with league giants S.L. Benfica.

His younger brother, Bruno, is a former AEK player, and both are centre backs.
Club career
Alves started his professional career at hometown's Varzim SC, playing 15 matches in the Portuguese first division in 1998-99, and subsequently signing with league giants S.L. Benfica. He first started playing with its B side, appearing 51 times and scoring once.
However, when first team opportunities proved few, he moved to S.C. Beira-Mar, in 2001-02, where he was an undisputed starter. After a season with Gil Vicente F.C., Alves joined F.C. Paços de Ferreira, experiencing his most steady career period. In 2006-07, as Paços achieved a first ever UEFA Cup qualification, he played 28 matches and added three goals, including two in a 2-1 home win over C.D. Nacional, on April 7, 2007.
On June 5, 2007, Alves signed a three-year deal worth €1.3 million with AEK Athens FC, where younger brother Bruno had previously played, loaned by FC Porto.In a September 20 UEFA Cup match against Red Bull Salzburg, Alves scored his first AEK goal, in a 3-0 home win (3-1 on aggregate).
A starter in his first campaign, Alves lost his spot in 2008-09 to Swedish international Daniel Majstorovic.
International career
Alves was called to participate in the 2004 Summer Olympics, alongside brother Bruno Alves, playing two matches in the tournament, against Belgium and Nigeria.
