History

The kibbutz was established in 1947 under the name Sde Akiva. The founding members were from the Palmach

. It served as a headquarters for the Israel Defense Forces

During the 2000s, the kibbutz has suffered from the repeating Qassam rocket

Economy

As well as agriculture, the kibbutz has a plastics factory, "Poleg". The kibbutz is located near the Sha'ar HaNegev school and the Sapir Academic College

and is a place of residence for several students.
