It was the last cheat cartridge Datel produced for the N64, and was designed to be sold at a lower price point compared to other competing cheat cartridges, such as Datel's Action Replay Professional and the Blaze Xplorer64. The Equalizer lacked some of the features of the Action Replay Professional such as the parallel interface port on the rear; these missing features meant the Equalizer was functionally identical to the original N64 Action Replay, but with an updated cheat code list.

In the USA InterAct held the license for the Action Replay brand and renamed it the GameShark

The Equalizer is compatible with the N64 Action Replay

, and has a Replay built into it. When using both, the Equalizer is placed on the bottom, with the Action Replay above it. The player can use codes from both without having to switch between devices. The Equalizer is not compatible with the GameShark Pro, however it is likely that the USA equivalent the "GameShark Lite" is compatible.

Reception

Fuse Video Game said that Equalizer was "quite Simply the Best Value Cheat Cartridge on the market today."
