The Boundary Commission for Scotland made initial proposals to review the constituency in early 2008. These proposals would add to the constituency areas to the east of Easter Road and contiguous with Leith Links, but would remove
the New Town, most of Stockbridge, and Pilton. These proposals are being consulted on and may be reviewed before being implemented before the 2011 election.

Council area

The Holyrood constituency covers a northern portion of the City of Edinburgh council area. The rest of the city area is covered by five other constituencies, all also in the Lothians electoral region: Edinburgh East and Musselburgh

Wards

Edinburgh North and Leith includes the wards of Broughton, Calton, Granton, Harbour, Lorne, New Town, Newhaven, Stockbridge, Trinity, and part of the Pilton ward, which is split with the Edinburgh West constituency. The wards were created in 1999, at the same time as the constituency, and are due to be replaced with new wards in 2007, without change to constituency boundaries.

For the 2011 election, the newly drawn "Edinburgh Northern and Leith" will consist of the electoral ward of Leith Walk in full, and the divided wards of Forth, Inverleith, and Leith.
