He began his cooking career at 15, as a kitchen hand. when the head chef walked out, he was asked to take over. He studied an arts/law degree at Sydney University in 1995, whilst cooking in bistros. That year, he suspended his studies to do community work in the Solomon Islands

He is a regular guest on ABC Radio 702, and the Better Homes And Gardens Radio.

He lives in Collaroy Plateau in Sydney with wife Leah and children Finn and Luca. His hobbies include gardening, fishing and long distance running. He also works with charities Anglicare
