Reinhardt challenges him, but his mother pleads for him and Duncan quickly makes it clear that he is the Immortal to be challenged. He disarms Reinhardt and brings the coach safely home ("Revenge is Sweet").

1780 Duncan meets Kiem Sun again in China

. Kiem Sun has managed to make a potion from the Kwanlo root and proudly stages a fight between two mortals to demonstrate its powers. Duncan disapprovingly watches as the two men attack each other without feeling fear or pain. He stops it but can't prevent them from dying. Kiem Sun and he argue about the real usefulness of the root and Duncan realizes his friend is becoming obsessed with it ("The Road Not Taken").

In Outer Mongolia, Duncan meets Immortal May-Ling Shen and studies more of the martial arts he began when he met Hideo Koto ("The Also Serve").
1783 Duncan is the bodyguard of Baron Deshields, who negotiates a peace treaty with the French (presumably the Treaty of Paris

). One night, a group of acrobats led by Immortal Kuyler entertain the society. But Kuyler kills Baron Deshields during a magic trick and disappears before Duncan can do anything ("For Evil's Sake").
1786 Duncan and Gabriel Piton celebrate Piton's successful stealing of the marquesa's pearls by spending the night in a brothel. At dawn, they have to fight the soldiers coming to recover the pearls and escape. ("Eye of the Beholder").

In the finished edit the dialogue is shorter. In the Script Duncan says to Felicia: "I've known Coronelli's work ever since... ever since I knew Coronelli!"
