Plot

A normal high school boy Ryūji Kisaragi's peaceful life is turned into an adventure by the return of his second cousin, Eriko. Ryūji and Eriko seize a relic box from a black market broker named FANG. In the box, they find a red dragon girl whom Ryūji names Rose because of her rose like pattern on her left hand. In order to protect Rose from the black organization, Ryūji decides to fight using his power as a relic handler.

Characters

The 15 year old protagonist. Ryūji's parents are "Lost Precious" hunters like the rest of his family, as such he lives mostly on his own. He does not know why Rose knows him. It is indicated that they have met each other years ago, when Rose saved Ryuji from an untimely death. Ryuji has a vague memory of when he was younger and saw Rose hatch from her egg in front of his eyes. Ryūji is a level 10 breaker, said to be the highest level of breakers who go to find/use lost precious. Besides Ryūji, there are seven other level 10 breakers in the world, all older than he is. Later, he is recognized by some of the other dragons as Rose's fiancée, but this is due to a misunderstanding. He truly has feelings for Rose and does care about her, but has yet to be confirmed. This is evident when he first "Engaged" with Rose, which allows him to borrow Rose's power and achieve unbelievable power. He desperately hates frogs to be scared at them from the mere sight of one (episode 8 near the end). He also begins to feel embarrassed around Rose once he performed the dragon's coming of age ceremony with Rose (which was simply kissing the dragon scale birthmark on her hand). According to Onyx, Ryūji is not human but the corporeal form of a Lost Precious called "Dragon Crisis" that can exert a great influence over dragons, thus he is able to wield the Lost Precious "Slash Breath" - a powerful weapon feared even by them, and the reason why having performed the coming of age ceremony with Rose weakened her body, forcing him to hand Rose over to Onyx and Kai in hopes of saving her life.

Little is known about Rose beyond that she is a young dragon

, and thus still unable to change her form. When she is first released from the case the crime syndicate "Fang" were transporting her in she knows nothing but Ryūji's name, but soon picks up a few words. Since she could not communicate, or didn't know her name, Ryūji gives her the name Rose because the dragon scales on the back of her left hand look like a rose

. Rose is aggressive towards nearly everyone, except Ryūji to whom she clings so much to that she will sleep beside him in his bed. She does love Ryūji deeply, but still wonders if Ryūji does care about her feelings. When Ryūji was younger it was he who found Rose when she hatched it is said by Eriko that "love at first sight" with Ryūji. Later, some of the dragons acknowledged Ryūji as Rose's fiancée due to misunderstanding the context of "Engage". After Ryūji kisses her birthmark as part of the dragon's coming of age ritual, she becomes flustered and embarrassed around Ryūji, but still has uncertainty about her relationship with him. It is revealed next episode that due to Ryūji being the corporeal form of the Lost Precious "Dragon Crisis", she becomes severely weakened with her life in danger. She is handed over to Kai and Onyx in hopes that they will save her. In the final episode Maruga indicates that Rose was sick not because Ryūji was a corporeal form of "Dragon Crisis" but that Rose's intense feelings for Ryūji manifested themselves physically. Hearing this Ryūji heads off to rescue Rose, performing the "Love Engage" with Rose in order to defeat Onyx and save her.

Ryūji's busty 19 year old second cousin. She has been studying abroad for some time but returns to Japan to intercept a "Lost Precious" that "Fang" will be transporting through the city docks. Despite the danger of taking anything that "Fang" believes is theirs she does not back down because she believes the contents, which she suspects to be an S rank "Lost Precious", will prove her worth to the other "Lost Precious" hunters. Initially unable to identify what or whom Rose is, she is shocked when she discovers that Rose is a Red Dragon.

Ryūji's classmate. She has feelings for Ryūji, but is shy whenever she is around Ryūji, making it hard for her to approach him casually and express her feelings. She is in shock after misunderstanding Ryūji and Rose being engaged. She seems a bit strange after taking a photo of Ryūji's x-ray during the interview on her cellphone, she may be the stalker type.

Another dragon Ryuji' met during his trip to the beach. She is the princess of the ice dragons. Initially she has a haughty attitude towards Ryuji, but she warms up towards him eventually. It is implied she likes Ryuji, as she blushes when Ryuji is around. She asks Ryuji for a favor, taking back a cursed precious, from another level 10 Breaker, George Evans. After the incident, she shows up in the last 2 episodes of the anime, where she convinced Ryuji to go save Rose. The black dragon, Onyx, used to live in her land, they have known each other since childhood.
