The clan gets its name from the Sanskrit

s of Ayodhya. The founder of the clan was a Rajah Durg Bhao, who is said to have immigrated from Ayodhya to Gujarat in the remote past, where his descendents were known as Durgbansis. One of his descendents, a Rajah Kalian Sah entered the service of Rajah Vikramjit of Kanauj, was initiated into the royal household. The clan thus became known as Dikhit.
