Mickey had run away because he had unwittingly caused an accident. Declan managed to persuade Mickey not to go home, and brought him stolen food from the General Store. Mickey became an unwitting pawn in Declan's criminal activities on two occasions: first helping him steal a man's briefcase, then breaking into a house to steal a laptop computer.

After a near-miss when stealing the laptop, Declan decided to take Mickey and his dog to his house. However, Rebecca noticed the dog right away and forced Declan to ring a vet. Picking a phone number at random, Declan didn't realise he was calling Mickey's uncle, Steve Parker

Nick invited Declan into their room at Lassiters and he soon after called Oliver, demanding $500,000 or Declan would pay with his life (despite the fact Laura pleaded with him to not go through with the kidnapping). Paul later discovered that Nick and Laura were the ones who kidnapped Declan, when he went to their hotel room and sees Declan tied up tightly with many ropes. He was subsequently knocked out by Laura, to prevent him from calling security. The kidnappers escaped with Declan in their car. When her conscience finally got the better of her, Laura freed Declan when Nick wasn't looking and he ran into the bush. Nick was intent on getting the $500,000, and gave chase while armed with an electric cattle prod

 (which he later dropped) when he found Declan was missing. When Oliver finally got the money and phoned Nick, arranging to meet with no cops and no other interference, Nick and Laura agree to meet. Police officer Adam Rhodes and his partner Sophie followed Paul, Oliver, and Rebecca, whilst keeping their presence unknown.

Nick demanded the money before he gave up Declan. However, Oliver demanded to see Declan or no money will be paid. Nick called Declan out of the car, however Rebecca realised that it isn't Declan, but Laura, who was forced by Nick to dress up like Declan in order to deceive Oliver. It is then that Oliver and Nick struggled over the bag of money, while the police arrived. Nick and Laura were arrested, and Sophie and Adam attempted to reason with Laura and tried to get her to reveal where Declan was. She shown the police the spot where she last saw Declan but couldn't provide any further information to help with the search. Declan was later found, with the dropped cattle prod and a sample of his shoe laces proving as vital clues.

Relationship with Bridget

He has developed feelings for resident tomboy Bridget Parker. He and Bridget had been having fights because of Declan getting Mickey (Bridget's cousin) to steal, however Bridget later forgave him. At a rock-climbing excursion, Bridget accidentally lost her grip on a rope and let Declan fall from a great height, rendering him unconscious. Declan and Bridget have a fun-loving relationship, but it's clear that their feelings for each other are more than just friends.

) swimming pool alone (Rachel went inside to find some food), Bridget slipped and almost drowned. However, Declan heard her cries for help and rushed to help her. While they almost kissed after this, Bridget resisted as she felt humiliated for being disabled. Eventually, Declan asked Bridget out on a date, to go see a movie.

Feeling disappointed for not receiving a kiss on the date, Bridget asked him out again. However, Declan stood her up, but later apologised saying he is not ready for her disability. Bridget then revealed her disgust with him, and refused to talk to him for a short period. Soon after, Bridget began seeing a boy she met at her rehabilitation class, Josh Taylor (Liam Hemsworth), and the two shared a kiss (which Declan jealously watched). Declan later put a CD in her locker "Declans mix of sorry songs". He tells her to think about them after one of their classes and kisses her. She tells him she's met somebody else and he tells her "Drop him." However Bridget refused to leave Josh for Declan, despite the fact that she still had feelings for him.

Paul's affair

Paul who has been dating Rebecca for at least a year now, began an affair with his new work colleague Kirsten Gannon

. After he returned from his trip to France

 he proposed to Rebecca out of guilt and she said yes. However after Rebecca's close friend and neighbour Susan Kinski found out about the affair from Lyn Scully ,who had been blackmailing Paul about the affair, she told her and Rebecca and Declan packed their bags and left the house, but just before they left Declan yelled at Paul and punched him leading to Paul falling on the table and cutting his lip as they walked out. They subsequently moved into 24 with Marco and Carmella.

Reunion with Bridget

After breaking-up with Ringo, Bridget was implicated in a murder case. During the whole ordeal a multitude of dilemma's arose including her brother leaving, her father being falsely charged and her mother and aunt bickering over an alleged affair. Throughout the adversity she once again slowly grew close to Declan. Their feelings for each other were exposed when the boys organised a kissing booth fundraiser for the Erinsborough Fire Service, out of jealousy Bridget purchased all of Declans kissing tickets as she didn't want him getting intimate with other girls. When Bridget revealed this to Declan they engaged in a passionate clinch.

Afterwards Declan's confessed his love for Bridget much to her joy. The new couple happily dated for a month until Bridgets ex-boyfriend Josh returned.

With Josh's return this brought out Declan's competitive side as he would frequently bicker with Josh regarding Bridget's welfare. Josh caused a rift between Declan and Bridget when he twisted the truth about the pair (Bridget and Declan) having sex. Bridget was mad at Declan however she forgave him. They slept together shortly afterwards.

Bridget's Pregnancy

While he was away at AFL, Bridget discovered she was pregnant with his child. First she confided in his mum, Rebecca, then headed up to tell Declan. Unable to cope with the stress, Declan kisses a footy groupie and Zeke sees this. At Dan and Libby's engagement party the footy groupie is there and tells Bridget about the kiss. Declan drives off and Bridget collapses and tells her parents she is pregnant. She is taken to hospital but the baby is fine. She tells her parents that she is going to have an abortion but she doesn't in the end. They move in together into Bridget's house much to the dismay of her parents. In the 2008 season finale Bridget and Declan go on a rafting trip and Bridget ends up lost. Declan goes to help find Bridget and finds her alive and well. Later they have an ultrasound for the first tie and they can't get over the fact that what they saw was their kid and Declan has been very supportive towards Bridget who is following the journey to try and find her birth mother although they will soon find out that the only person stopping her is Miranda.
