Early and personal life

Lewis was born September 7, 1967 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. His parents were missionaries in Germany. He and his family moved to Lebanon

 when he was in the fourth grade. As young child Lewis became interested in science and history. Lewis is married to the former Janet Hall, aunt of Kay and Claudia Hall. In 2006 they moved from Chattanooga Tennessee to Nashville Tennessee. They attend Una Baptist Church, where Daniel Lewis teaches an Adult Sunday School Class.

Shortly after graduating from college, Lewis became acquainted with the Libertarian Party

 and became active in the Libertarian Party on the local level. In 2002 he help restart the Hamilton County Libertarian Party. Subsequently, Lewis became Secretary of the Hamilton County Libertarian Party. He is listed under educators on the Comprehensive Listing of Notable Libertarians

2004 election

In 2004 Lewis ran as a Libertarian for Tennessee House of Representatives

2008 election

After moving to Nashville in 2006, Lewis began reestablishing the Libertarian Party affiliate in the Nashville area as the Libertarian Party of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County. The Libertarian Party of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County was officially reorganized on March 1, 2008. Two months later he was elected as the first Chair of the Libertarian Party of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.

In a letter dated March 3, 2008 the Tennessee Division of Elections officially notified him that he had achieved ballot access as a candidate in the United States Senate election in Tennessee, 2008
