The village is sourrounded by mountains and linked by a good road to Vila Nova Sintra, the biggest town of the island, which is about 2 km away to the East. There are good walking paths to the island's tallest mountain Fontainhas. From some places near Cova Rodela there is a beautiful scenic view to Vila Nova Sintra and even to the neighbouring island of Fogo

. Most of the inhabitants of the village live on agriculture, growing maize and bananas.

Cova Rodela has a school, a bank and a few small shops. In Main Street there is a noteworthy old dragon tree belonging to the rare species dracaena draco.
