 president and became president of the CSA in May 2006. He vowed then to make grand changes in the sport's oversight.

He said the national soccer organization is dominated by provincial interests more interested in the their local associations and power, than a national scope.

He also said the best idea would be to allow staff to make decisions, but that the board would resist such a move.

Another reason given was the failure by the Board to confirm the contract of former Basketball Canada boss Fred Nykamp as CEO

Linford claimed board members worried Nykamp's mandate would overcome their position and sway at the CSA.

Linford said "If a youngster has the opportunity to play for another country ... I suggest they take it."
