History

Since its inception in 1929, Carlton Forge Works's business experienced expansion and contraction. The revenues of the company have gone up and down due to the cycle of the aerospace

industry. In the past, there had been reported layoffs. Carlton is located in Paramount California but it has no websites.

In 2009, Precision Castparts Corporation (PCC) acquired Carlton Forge Works in a $850 million deal that broadens the company’s forging operations. The transaction also includes another hammer forging operation in Oxnard, CA called Arcturus Manufacturing Corporation. The CEO of PCC Mark Donegan said that Carlton had been a target for acquisition for a long-time because the company has been doing several big aerospace projects, including the Boeing 787 and Airbus aircraft. Furthermore, the acquisition enables PCC to provide a full range of products to the current customers and increases the forging capabilities.

Pollution

Carlton Forge Works’ production facility is also the source of pollution. The amount of pollution is done in manufacturing the raw materials into finish products. The pollution produced during production takes the forms of chromium and nitrogen oxide as reported by scorecard.org and aqmd.gov. At its source and for each kilogram of aluminum produced, about 40 kg of NOx is already generated before the production takes place at the facility. In addition, the energy involved in making the product is at least an order of magnitude smaller than that required for producing the material. The energy for metal deformation processes like rolling and forging, for instance, is generally in the range of 0.01 to 1 MJ/kg. While saving energy in manufacturing is necessary, Carlton is conscious in eliminating any toxic waste and polluted discharges created in manufacturing.
