Yu made her debut in film at the age of 16 in "Let's Rock" and was instantly signed by the Shaw Brothers Studio

 for eight years. Yu then married Chow Yun Fat in 1983, but the marriage only lasted several months. She remarried in 1987 to Hong Kong businessman Henry Lee Junior

In 2008 she launched her own website entitled "Candice Yu On On", which can be found at http://yuonon.hk. Yu is an avid traveler and amateur photographer, and her website features many of her own photographs, as well as a blog that is updated frequently.
