The Brussels Periphery refers to the municipalities of the Flemish Region

Flemish Region

The Flemish Region is one of the three official regions of the Kingdom of Belgium—alongside the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Capital Region.  which are located around the Brussels-Capital Region.

Due to their proximity to Brussels, these municipalities have been urbanised and the housing prices are high. As a consequence, a lot of well-paid people working in e.g. EU institutions reside here. Another issue, very sensitive in Belgian politics, is the frenchification of this area. These municipalities are legally unilingually Dutch, although several municipalities have language facilities for French-speakers, namely Drogenbos
