The official language is Dutch with French facilities. In 1954, special linguistic rights were given to Francophones (according to the 1947 census, they constituted nearly 40% of the population). Now, Francophones make up the majority of the population.
Francophones can request official documents from the local administration in French. There are also primary and maternity schools teaching in French.

The mayor since 2000 is Damien Thiéry of the Union des Francophones
