 during the 19th and early 20th centuries (emigration movement of the "Barcelonnettes", Barcelonnette being the main city in the Upper Ubaye Valley, west of Jausiers). They belonged to the Laugier-Arnaud family, a major merchant and banking family in 18th century Ubaye.

Born at Jausiers in 1781 and finding now success in France, he decided to try his luck in the Americas, emigrating to Louisiana in 1805. He joined the Acadia

n community and married Marie Lalonde, by whom he had children whose descendents still exist. He was soon joined by his brothers and 3 weavers he had previously employed, and together they founded Arnaudville

 in Louisiana. In 1821 he and his brothers moved to Mexico, where they set up the shop "El Cajon de Ropa de Las Sietes Puertas". He was assassinated in 1828, near the Mexican town of Guanajuato
