History

The company was founded by Jacob Bloch, who immigrated from Europe

 in 1931 and began making shoes by hand in the workshop where he lived. Jacob began making pointe shoes in 1932 when he noticed a ballet dancer having trouble staying on pointe and offered to make her an improved pair of shoes.

Jacob's reputation for making good dance shoes spread rapidly. In the late 1930s he assisted ballet companies such as De Basil's Monte Carlo Russian Ballet, the original Ballet Russe. He made shoes for Spessiva, Baranova, Riabouchinskaya, Toumanova, David Lichine
