'Bhabhi' is based on the relationships and happenings of destiny.This is a story of a woman Saroj trapped in the hands of fate. As soon as Saroj raises the ghunghat; it changes her entire life completely.
The protagonist Saroj with the ghunghat across her face is the newly married 'Bhabhi', traveling to her husband's home along with her husband Dr Prakash and her only blood relation - her elder brother. An unfortunate road accident with another vehicle carrying a marriage party renders her unconscious. Hours later as she recuperates in the warm and caring presence of her husband's home, a shocking fact unfolds in front of her. She realises that the man who is supposedly her husband and the family she is with is not her own.
There is no trace of her actual husband Dr. Prakash and her brother. Saroj also soon learns that the family she is now with and who have welcomed her as their new Bhabhi had never seen the bride before. Saroj is being mistaken for a girl called Pushpa (the girl that everyone in the house thinks their son Tilak has married and brought home with him). When Saroj reveals her identity to Tilak (Pushpa's husband) he is aghast. He realises that at the accident site, since he had never seen his wife Pushpa's face, he had mistakenly brought the wrong bride home.
As the two decide to reveal this mishap of mistaken identity to the family, a sudden crisis situation arises. Tilak's mother falls seriously ill unable to accept the death of her husband (in the same accident) Tilak pleads with Saroj not to immediately reveal to his family that she is not the bride 'Pushpa' everyone is assuming. Seeing the situation she complies.
Saroj is forced to assume the mantle of the daughter-in-law and give solace to Tilak's mother in the hope of helping her emerge from the trauma of her recent widowhood. Saroj's emotional support helps save Tilak's mother. Everyone rejoices, yet Saroj is devastated. Being an orphan and with no news of her husband and her brother she is miserable. At the other end the adulation, love and total acceptance from each member of the family numbs Saroj so completely that at least for the moment she decides, though unwillingly to accept the position as 'Pushpa Bhabhi' - the most sought after woman in the Chopra family.
Both Saroj and Tilak know they are treading a dangerous path, yet with Saroj having no place to go to and with Tilak's mother just recouping Saroj continues to be the 'Bhabhi' of the house, a role she plays to perfection because of her innate sense of goodness in wanting to revive hope in the Chopra family while inwardly devastated about the separation from her real husband and brother.

Overview
