todi family lineages. Many of these families have invested heavily in schooling in the region. As such, Bagar, strategically placed between Jhunjhunu city and Chirawa city, is known as a learning hub. It currently houses 32 educational institutions for both local citizens as well as residential students from neighboring towns and cities. However, the proliferation of schools does not always equate to top quality learning; there is great potential for improvement in the standards and content of education in Bagar. The growing willingness by villagers to pay for private education has led to the opportunistic creation of many new schools in recent years. The town is also viewed as transitory: the population fluctuates with the school year

Projects

Piramal Foundation

Mr. Ajay G. Piramal established Piramal Foundation (PF) with a vision to build sustainable communities at the grass root level to contribute in living in a sustainable world free from problems like poverty, diseases, unemployment, exclusion etc.

The four core focus areas of the Piramal Foundation are- Health, Education, Youth Empowerment and Preservation of Indian Culture.

As a part of the PF, we have established social enterprises with an aim to find answers to above problems

Health

Piramal Water- Sarvajal- About 40 million people suffer from water borne diseases in India each year, 2/3rd of the patients visiting doctors for common ailments are suffering from water borne diseases. In view of such facts, the idea of Sarvajal was seeded by Piramal Foundation’s experiment in Bagar, the Piramal hometown in Rajasthan. Sarvajal is making safe drinking water accessible to rural population at the ultra low cost of 30 paisa per liter.
Sarvajal, filtered through 5 stages including RO and UV, is provided in the range of 50 to 150 ppm in accordance with IS 10500, the drinking water quality standard. They work through a franchise business format under Sarvajal brand name and have already set up 120 plus such units, creating employment for 250 individuals at least; they are daily serving more than 70,000 individuals.

E-Swasthya: Launched in March 2008, eSwasthya is a social initiative through which affordable and high quality primary healthcare is provided to unserved rural populations. The eSwasthya rural healthcare delivery model has been developed in partnership with Prof. Nitin Nohria of Harvard Business School with a vision to “democratize healthcare”. The model is based on franchise format which makes it sustainable and scalable. It utilizes state-of-the-art information technologies to provide quality healthcare access to remote & underserved areas of rural India.
The service is currently operational in 3 districts of Rajasthan. It has 51 centers and about 45,000 patients have benefited from it till now. eSwasthya is now a part of HMRI – another organization supported by the Foundation.

Health & Management Research Institute (HMRI): It is a registered society under the Andhra Pradesh Registration of Societies Act 2000. It is a non-profit organization supported by Piramal Foundation that works towards improved access and quality of healthcare services for all, especially the un- and underserved rural populace.
HMRI runs the following services –

(i)Health Information Helpline: This helpline has 400 seats attending 50,000 calls per day, thereby being the world’s largest health contact center.

(ii)Mobile Health Services: It is a comprehensive, technology-enabled, monthly fixed day health service for the rural poor. It services populations located beyond three kilometers of any public health service provider.

(iii)Telemedicine: This service provides point-of-care, user friendly, cost effective, integrated multi-functional device for rural telemedicine applications with an emphasis on general physician functionality. The service leverages the following technologies to conduct virtual physical examinations: tele-ENT, tele-dermatology, tele-medical and surgical consultation, tele-cardiology, tele-ophthalmology, and rapid diagnosis of diabetes, etc.

The Bagar centre has 24x7 Power Backup supported with generator set and UPS, top-notch data security standards, secure central server equipped with firewalls, networking racks and Cat-6 network cabling, Bio-Metric Access control systems, International standard Fire Safety equipment, and world-class workstations.
