There will be 172 athletes competing in five events: Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Competition Format

For the first time there will be a combination of group play and knock-out stages in Olympic badminton competition, following its introduction at the 2010 Youth Summer Olympics in Singapore

Qualification

The Olympic qualification period will be between 2 May 2011 and 29 April 2012, and the Badminton World Federation rankings list, published on 3 May 2012, will be used to allocate spots. Nations can enter a total of three players in single events, and two pairs in the doubles for a maximum 18 athletes per NOC.
