History

The building was erected in 1895 by Lockwood, Greene & Company (with tile vaults designed by the Guastavino Company) and added to the National Register of Historic Places

Ginn and Company owned the Athenaeum Press for many years, printing textbooks there. Ginn later became part of the Penguin Group

As of 2011, the largest tenant in the building is the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Boston
