On April 12, 2010, Mayor Little filed her nomination by petition to run as a Republican in New Jersey's 6th Congressional District Republican primary on June 8, 2010. On June 15, 2010, it was announced that Mayor Little won the Republican primary against Rumson, NJ businesswoman Diane Gooch on June 8, 2010. The race was extremely close and Little only won by 84 votes. Gooch did not seek a recount and endorsed Little.On November 3, 2010, Pallone defeated Little by over 16,000 votes, 55% to 43%. However, for the first time in his career, Pallone failed to carry his home county of Monmouth.
