He shot to fame in mainstream politics when he helped his wife Lovely Anand winning by-election to the Vaishali parliamentary constituency in 1994 as an independent candidate and ensured her victory. Riding high on this success his party (Bihar People's Party) contested from all the seats of Bihar in the following state elections but failed miserably, winning only one seat. He is convicted in the murder of an IAS officer and currently serving life imprisonment, the husband-wife duo shot and then stoned to death a bleeding G. Krishnaiya, the Gopalganj district magistrate, on a national highway.

Political Background

Anand Mohan started as a local goon. He was one of the most dreaded criminals. He is currently serving life sentence for the murder of an IAS officer. http://www.nerve.in/news:253500311281. In 1995 Anand Mohan's Bihar Peoples Party contested from large number of Assembly Constituencies, which was a political understanding between Lalu Prasad Yadav and him. Bihar Peoples Party contested from all the Assembly Constituencies in Bihar to help R.J.D to get back to power. The result was as per the strategy, the losing margin of Congress Party was somewhat the votes secured by B.P.P which helped Lalu Prasad Yadav in retaining Power.Later in 1998 he contested on R.J.D ticket and also as Samta Party's candidate in 1999. There is almost no party which has been left by him, due to which the people have lost faith in him and he has perished. in 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he was denied ticket by all the political parties due to his political character he fought as an independent candidate from Sheohar Lok Sabha constituency and got his security forfeited.

In 2004 when Congress-R.J.D severed ties, his wife Lovely Anand contested on Congress ticket replacing the earlier congress candidate Madhurendra Kumar Singh who's name was notified and later he was replaced by Lovely Anand, as Congress party thought it will benefit more from her. But the final result was same, her security was forfeited and she stood 4th (fourth).

after two weeks prior his predecessor was killed in a bomb attack on his office. Two months later he encountered Singh in a funeral procession wherein police reports say that Singh "exhorted his followers to lynch the upstart official." Krishnaigh died there.

Singh was arrested but from his prison cell he contested and retained his seat in the 1996 general election and then made bail to attend parliament.
