Alur Mandal is located between Adoni (of Andhra Pradesh) and Bellary (of Karnataka). Aspari, Alur, halaharvi, chippagiri,Holagunda and Devanakonda are other neighboring mandals which are included in Alur Assembly constituency. Alur has shared state border with Bellary, Siruguppa taluks of karnataka.

Geography

Alur is a town with a degree college, junior college, boy's high school, girl's high school and one private school.

Earlier one basic teacher training institute is situated in this small village but due to political weakness of the leaders it is shifted to the district head quarters. One oil mill also was there but due to permit raj this mill is collapsed and township is built at the same place.

Two cinema halls are present here to entertain the public.

Due to the border with karnataka, people here speak kannada and Telugu languages.

The famous Devaragattu (popular pilgrim centre) is in Alur taluk only to which people throng from all the south Indian states on the occasion of VijayaDashami (locally called as Banni).

People celebrate Dasara, Ugadi and respective village festivals. People live here by cultivating the land and dairy production.

This constituency has high illiteracy rate. Here the biggest problem for development is factionism. All the politicians are under the roots of factionism either directly or indirectly.

Govt and dedicated officers would change the face of Alur by educating the people and implementing the required development needs for better future.

The following is the list of village panchayats in Alur, Kurnool district mandal. This small town has the border with the Ballery district of karnataka. Pattikonda, adoni and guntakal are the nearby towns to Alur. Only bus facility is available to them.

Alur is the MLA constituency and was reserved to SC candidates From 2009 Election onwards it a general category.

Late Kotla vijaya bhaskara reddy, the ex chief minister of andhra pradesh and ex minister in the center had significant influence in this area. Now Niraja Reddy is the MLA of this constituency. It is having very fertile lands especially black cotton soil lands having verygood source of underground water that too soft water.
