Overall, Trafford was ranked 3rd out of all of the Local Education Authorities in National Curriculum assessment

 performance in 2007. Absences from Trafford secondary schools in 2006–07, authorised and unauthorised, were 5.6% and 0.8% respectively, both lower than the national average (6.4% and 1.4%). From the 2007 GCSE results, the Trafford LEA was ranked 5th out of 148 in the country – and first in Greater Manchester and the North West – based on the percentage of pupils attaining at least 5 A*–C grades at GCSE including maths and English (60.8% compared with the national average of 46.7%), this is widely thought to be because of the Grammar School system which is mainly held in South Trafford and is a key issue that Graham Brady has fought for as he is a believer in the system.
