Ali Akbar is an Indonesia
n art director and photographer.
His exposure to the 1960s and 1970s music from his father’s music collection has led him to enrol to the Graphic Design
Department at the Jakarta Institute of Arts (IKJ) to pursue his dreams in making legendary bands’ cover art.
Akbar began working in the advertising industry after his IKJ years. His professional career as an art director in various ad agencies, such as Leo Burnett
(Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur), and Ogilvy
Jakarta has earned him local and international awards.
Recently he set up Ali Akbar Studio, a photography studio where he focuses on developing a conceptual approach to commercial photography and image-making. His works have been exhibited in many avenues such as the Right Wing Violence poster exhibition held at Goethe-Institut

Biography
Akbar’s passion in photography and design was kindled as a boy in his elementary school years. At home, he designed a faux newspaper of his own from magazine cut-outs and his photo works, had them xeroxed and hawked around his neighbourhood.His exposure to the 1960s and 1970s music from his father’s music collection has led him to enrol to the Graphic Design
