In 1998 Alexander Misharin was appointed the Deputy Minister of Railways and in 2000 he became the First Deputy Minister of Railways. After resignation of Minister Nikolai Akseneko, who was blamed for corruption

In 2002 he was appointed the Head of Sverdlovsk Railway. During this period he was actively involved in the politics as member of United Russia

Education

Misharin graduated from the Ural State University of Railway Transport in 1981. He got the second diploma in economics in the same university in 1997. Misharin has scientific degrees in economy and engineering.
