Alexander Meyrick Broadley

Alexander Meyrick Broadley (19 July 1847 to 16 April 1916) was a British historian, author, and barrister. He is best known for being the defense lawyer for Ahmed Orabi after the failure of the Urabi Revolt
.

. He entered Lincoln's Inn
as a law student in 1866 and was called to the bar in 1869. He lived in Tunis for a number of years and worked as a lawyer there within the French legal system. He later lived in Belgium for a time.
In later life he returned to Bradpole and built a large house called "The Knapp" (as of 1998, it still existed and had been converted into a nursing home). He collected a large number of books, some of which he "grangerized
" by adding additional illustrations, and also became a prolific author of books on historical topics.
He never married.
