Military career

General Alain Bouquin started his career by attending the Special Military School of St Cyr and graduated in the promotion Général Rollet. Then General Bouquin was affected for one year at the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE)in Montpellier in 1980, then at the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment

 one year later. Until 1990, General Bouquin served as assistant officer, company leader and officer working at the Operation Instruction Bureau.

After serving for one year at the headquarters of the 3rd Corps., General Bouquin joined in 1991 the prestigious École nationale supérieure de techniques avancées

 as a trainee in order to obtain the EMSST Diploma. In 1993, he was a trainee at the Cours supérieur d'état-major and one year later trainee at Collège interarmées de Défense (CID).

From 1995 to 2000, General Bouquin served at l'état major des Armées (EMA), then at l'état-major des forces françaises stationed in Djibouti

, while still on duty, he joined the CID as chief of operation simulation before become an auditor for the 54ème promotion du CHEM and the 57ème promotion de l'Institut des Hautes études de la Défense Nationale (IHEDN).

General Bouquin was the General Commander of the French Foreign Legion from the 1st July 2009 to 1st September 2011.
