Agava was founded by the graduates of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1998. Initially the company specialized on development of the software.

This organization's name can be explained by formulating the specific phonetic criteria, also, from all obtained versions, which correspond to these criteria, it was not selected the name of plant "Agava" (it does not associate with neither Mexican cacti
