The main attraction of that election was the incumbent Prime Minister Mr. Nurul Amin lost his seat to Veteran student leader Mr. Khaleque Nawaz Khan at Nandail the home town of Prime minister constituency. Mr. Abul Monsur Ahmed was the main architect of the 21 point program of the 1954 jukto front election manifesto. Abul Mansur was the provincial education minister in the United Front Cabinet under Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq and the central commerce and industries minister and Deputy Prime minister of the Awami League government of Prime Minister Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy in 1957. He was the founder-secretary of the Awami Muslim League
