History

Llanhari is one of the older Welsh medium secondary schools in the area, having opened in 1974. It followed Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen

 in order to take the South Glamorgan pupils and relieve Llanhari.
On the 6th of June 2011, it was publicly announced that from 2013 the school would incorporate a primary unit and become a 3-19 school. It is as yet unknown what the new name of the school will be, although it has been postulated that it will simply be Ysgol Llanhari or Ysgol Gymraeg Llanhari.
